Last year, our team of 172 participants raised over $40,000 at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Thanks to you, we were able to provide financial support and services to hundreds of children and youth who face poverty, hunger, abuse, neglect, or exposure to domestic violence every day. With your help, the Hope for Children Foundation directly supported:
- 97 youth through post-secondary scholarships
- 209 children with summer camp experiences
- 198 families received poverty relief grants
- For more program support, please check out our annual report 2008-09.
Running and Fundraising is a Family Affair
For Kristin Hanson and family, participating in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon was “thrilling!” The excitement of the crowds cheering them on, the bands playing music, and running together made for “the most fun we’ve had as a family in years!”
Kristin, husband Rob, and children Keely (age 9) and Devlin (age 7) are active supporters of the Hope for Children Foundation. Every year they donate toys and clothes to the Adopt-a-Family Program at Christmas. The Marathon was another great way to help less fortunate families.
“We trained as a family the two months prior to the 5K run, while we collected pledges. We had to raise our financial goal three times, thanks to the overwhelming support we were getting from family and friends,” says Kristin, “I think it’s a great way for my kids to learn to work towards a goal for the better of others” .
