Congratulations to our youth!
Thanks to your donations, our wonderful young people received a record number of 97 scholarships and 45 recognition awards at our Annual Scholarship Event on August 26, 2009. The event took place at Hart House, University of Toronto, where students and guests enjoyed a meal together, followed by the awards ceremony.
Andrew Craig, Host of Canada Live, CBC Radio 2 served as the Master of Ceremonies. He was truly impressed by the calibre of our youth, and their determination to succeed both academically and personally. His mother is a long-serving Foster Mother with the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto.
Betty, one of our donors, shared her experience at the event:
Don and I would like to thank you for the invitation. To say that it was an inspiring evening would be an understatement. We had many amazing and wonder-filled interactions with some of the student recipients. We met Athena and Jesse while we were all sitting at a table munching on hors d' oeuvres. We learned from them their ambitions and achievements. Jesse had actually lived with a foster family in a town near our cottage. Jesse wants to be a youth councilor. I thought what a difference his worker must have made for him, to inspire him to work with other young people. Everyone we met impressed us with their self-assurance, their good manners and their ambitions. We were impressed with the diversity of awards, with the different age groups, even the young achievers, and the positive impact these awards will make in their impressionable lives.”
Peter Barnicke, President of the Hope for Children Foundation thanked everyone for their support, and congratulated our award recipients:
Congratulations for achieving your personal best in life and pursuing your educational goals. You have your whole future ahead of you filled with infinite possibilities. We wish each and every one of you the brightest of futures.”
